Attorney General given 10-day ultimatum to respond to petition against Church closures

In 2021, Uganda’s Constitutional Court gave Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka 10 days to respond to a petition challenging the government’s closure of places of worship. If no response was filed by the deadline, the petitioners, including Evelyne Naikoba, Kiganda Michael, Dr. Zedriga Lina Waru, and others, were allowed to proceed with the case in his absence. The petitioners argued that the closures violated the constitutional right to freedom of worship.
